Community Paramedicine

Gates County Rescue & EMS is proud to begin offering Community Paramedicine as a branch of our EMS system, effective July 13, 2020!!

This new resource is part of the rapid evolving Mobile Integrated Health medical community, and brings a new level of care to the citizens of Gates County.

Research has shown that if we can provide education and access to resources prior to repeat 911 calls that many of patients are better served by this manner of medicine and assistance and we as and Emergency Medical System are able to keep Emergency Resources available for higher acuity needs.

Our program goals are:

  1. To decrease the number of repeat 911 fall calls.
  2. To decrease the number of repeat 911 refusals.
  3. To help address substance abuse in our community.
  4. To increase education in recent hospital discharge patients regarding various medical conditions.

Our community paramedic will meet with patients in their homes, at the patients convenience. Typically this will take place Monday thru Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., but appointments can be made outside of those hours as needed.  We will offer safety and patient needs assessments, help navigating the care they need, navigating roadblocks such as transportation issues, medication usage and refills, insurance issues, and even help them access the care of specialists or PCM’s, by helping make appointments, and speaking to medical staff.

This currently is a FREE service to the patients we see.  All we need to have is the patient’s consent for us to come and see them!  The Community Paramedic will get in touch with a patients PCM as needed for orders following their assessment. This will allow for improved continuity of care, and allow the PCM to make better “real time” changes if needed.

We are looking forward to serving the citizens of Gates County!

If you feel that you or someone you know would benefit from these new services, please call or email us at 252-357-0388 ext. 4 or michelle.rudisill@gatesrescue.org and we will contact you to see if we can help!
